Rotator Cuff Injuries
Damage to the group of muscles and tendons that stabilize the shoulder, ranging from irritation to partial or complete tears that limit strength and motion.
About this condition
The rotator cuff is a set of four muscles and their tendons that hold the ball of the shoulder in its socket and let you lift and rotate the arm. Injuries range from inflammation and fraying to partial and full-thickness tears, caused by either sudden trauma or gradual wear over years.
Dr. Sonntag starts with the least invasive path that fits the injury. Many partial tears and irritation respond well to rest, physical therapy, and injections. For larger or full tears that cause weakness, or when conservative care fails, he evaluates whether an arthroscopic repair will restore function.
