About this procedure
Shoulder manipulation treats a frozen shoulder that has not improved with therapy alone. With the patient under anesthesia and fully relaxed, Dr. Sonntag carefully moves the shoulder through its range of motion to release the tight, scarred capsule that has been restricting movement, breaking up the adhesions that cause stiffness.
Dr. Sonntag considers manipulation for patients whose frozen shoulder remains stubbornly stiff despite consistent conservative care. He times it thoughtfully within the course of the condition and pairs it with a focused therapy program afterward, so the motion gained during the procedure is maintained as the shoulder continues to recover.
